We love the sun, surf, sand and the freedom to just get back to nature and enjoy what mother nature has provided for us....And not wanting to be disturbed in any way.....Tho' we do welcome a friendly hello and friendly chatter.....We sunbaked at Obelisk Beach yesterday on the rock shelves at the western end of the beach, when a rather portly fellow sat down beside us....Twas perhaps a half hour of sun soaking when we noticed he had moved up behind us within 2 meters of us,when we noticed him gazing intently at my lady as she lay there and then she noticed he was masturbating quite intensely.....This we thought was quite unacceptable and consequently moved ourselves and our belongings to another area away from him...when we noticed he had also moved from his position to another position near us....Does this sort of thing happen frequently..??...We thought this was totally degrading and places Obelisk Beach in a very sleazy light.....Obelisk Beach is a beautiful beach and we know that Gay and straight people alike frequent this beach and rightly so and should share a beautiful area such as Obelisk, but this behaviour is unacceptable.....Is this just our view...??.....

Of course you are right completely and to be honest I think you should have called the police. I know it doesn't feel good to make a big deal out of it but if you were offended you should have reported it.

Greetings Kippy and Amy..

i would find it bothersome as well if someone was doing that while i was trying to enjoy sunbathing.. I would have confronted  the person. I don't think that should be allowed..

Jason November 23, 2007, 10:35 am

Kippy and Amy are you both nudists ?

avoid Obelisk Beach

Cobblers Beach

Lady Bay Beach

Kippy and Amy November 23, 2007, 10:47 am

Jason...We have enjoyed sunbaking and swimming in our birthday suits (totally naked) at Obelisk,Cobblers and Washaway....If this does constitute us being nudists then nudists we be....Was wondering why you asked this question...??....

What hes doing is harassing you. You shouldve told him to bog off

micheal November 26, 2007, 10:01 am

Hi to kippy and amy. I hope this incedient doenst put you off the nudist lifestyle as it would be a shame if that were to happen. I have been a nudist for many years now and have been part of the fight to get legal nude beaches in QLD and this kind of behaviour at nude beaches really gets on my nerves as its this sort of behaviour that gets nude beaches shut down let alone approved.

there is only one way that we can reduce this from happening and that is to report it to police. you were on a legal nude beach that states that you are legally allowed to go nude. anything outside of that is illegal and should be reported. now i know there is a lot to go through and just as many reasons for not wanting to reveal that you were on a nude beach and i understand that but if nudist as a whole dont report this kind of behaviour than it will go unnoticed and get worse. now let me add this just doenst happen at nude beaches it happens at clothed beaches as well its just not that noticable.

i think why its more noticed at nude beaches is the offenders can get closer because they too can go nude without detection unitll they start misbehaving. It is a real shame displays of this kind happen but we do need to start reporting this to the police. its a legal area and they have to follow up on it.

unoffical nude beaches are more difficult to report because you run the risk of being arrested yourself so i would tread lightly in this area but i think the police will be more likley to arrest the more offending person than the one just going nude. dont quote me on this its just a theroy.

i am sorry that you ahd to expereince this but dont let it effect you too much. there are more genuine poeple than the deviant ones.

Dario Western November 27, 2007, 7:54 pm

Hi Kippy and Amy,

You should have gone up to him, punched his lights out and called the police.  This is no way to behave on a beach regardless of whether nudist or not.  Don't put up with people like this - evil prevails when good people sit about and do nothing.

Kippy and Amy November 28, 2007, 7:52 pm

Hi Dario,Thankyou for your words of wisdom and I do know where you're coming from but I do believe that violence is not the answer....And to leave it to the police....However,my first thought was to tell the police but my second thought was what would happen to Obelisk Beach...??...Will the council lift the legalities of practicing nudity at Obelisk Beach and therefore making it a clothes only beach..??.....therefore losing another nude sunbaking beach ala Reef Beach.....In other words will a complaint to the police help maintain nudity @ Obelisk Beach...??...After all,The portly bloke in question did not assault us...tho' it would be a different situation if he had....We did not lose any sleep over him,but just thought how disgusting he was and looked.....

micheal November 28, 2007, 11:35 pm

Answear yourself this question. If this person was doing this at a clothed beach would you call the cops then. I am guessing the answear is yes. now does this mean that the clothed beach would be shut down. no i dont think so. the bottom line is that you and anyone else that has this happen to them are doing something 100% leagal if at a legal nude beach and the ones playing with themselves are doing something 100% illegal. we have to take a stand and hope that the governments dont close the beaches in question.

Sid November 29, 2007, 5:19 am

Logically you are right Michael. But realistically if we report these things, then some local council member will be holding it above his head as proof that nude beaches need to be shut down.

ron November 29, 2007, 5:38 am

Greetings Michael and Sid..

after giving it much thought.. i do agree with Sid.. Michael, though it is very inappropriate to act like that on an open beach... if one would report it. the whole situation could backfire and perhaps cause a law to be passed banning all nude beaches..  I would however, still confront the individual and ask them to refrain what they are doing.. if it continues... well one can act accordingly.

hugs to all

21 November 2007

Mosman Council failed closing down Cobblers Beach and Obelisk Beach

instead visitors will be greeted with new signs (next few weeks) confirming the area as a nudist precinct and increased police patrols

police will prosecute indecent, obscene, offensive behaviour

Get over it

Stuart Baanstra October 27, 2011, 4:42 am
I think people should be able to masturbate wherever they want. Being gay, I don't feel I've ever had the opportunities for relationships like straight people, so why shouldn't I wank?
