I was born in India and brought up in a society where being naked is all right till the age of 7-8 (boys) and even less for girls.

For me, say around the age of 15 (I am now 29, living in Sydney) I started liking and loving my own body and felt complete, proud, happy when I see myself on the mirror but privately but also thought it is something uncommon feeling because no one else express such a feeling (well it wasn't discussed).

When I came to Australia in 2005, a friend of mine (A Brazilian girl) took me to Obelisk beach along with her boyfriend on 06 Dec 06 and I was then married and my wife was totally aware of this but not interested to join us. I had so much anxiety and some fear as well about many issues like someone taking picture, whether it is legal to do, what will happen if somebody takes away all my belongings when I am in the water :) and also but having erections. But on the contrary, everything was perfect and my friend and her boyfriend made everything positive and comforted me to the maximum possible.  Really felt positive, liberated and to see all naked generalised my decade long feelings.

Since then, I went by myself (only twice though), started enjoying nude photography and live nude indor as much as possible. Did some professional nude art photography and love it so much and look forward to share it with you readers of this website.

Hi Vijay and thanks so much for sharing your experience. It certainly seems like you are very comfortable with your own body and have a very healthy self-image.

For those who don't know, Vijay is considering doing a photo shoot for Naked Australians. He would be our first Indian model if he follows through. Exciting huh?

Give him some words of encouragement.

Dear Adam

Could you please explain what you are trying to say. I can't make any sense of it.

Vijay March 1, 2009, 4:25 pm

Sorry for the typo..it is not Adam but ADMAN.

Vijay, we know you have told us but maybe you'd like to tell our viewers what that is around your waist?

Vijay March 2, 2009, 6:06 am

What is around my waist? ....

It is a traditional Indain body jewellery made of silver. Many men wear it as a thread in black or red colour.

It is just not a jewellery but also serves a purpose for men to wear a piece of loin cloth that runs from the front to back covering only the private parts. It is the oldest form of g-string where the string stays on the body and the cloth gets replaced. Indian version of Japanese Fundoshi. We call it LANGOTI or KOVANAM.

My scientific view on it is that a silver chain worn around the waist can actually protect men from getting hernia (inguinal) as this is the weakest part of the abdomen through which a mass of tissue buldges out. A hernia belt is available (definitely in India) which serves the same purpose.

So.... it is a jewellery, g-string and a protective tool. Isn't that great...:)

Hello Vijay.. thanks for sharing a bit of indian culture with us. Yes it is great.. a piece of jewelry and a protector.  Who would have thought it would be a protections against hernias?  I can't wait to see your  full shoot.  Cheers

Thats wonderful that you can feel so free with yourself. I don't know how you all do it though. I can't even look at myself in the mirror naked. I'm too brainwashed by western societies standards of beauty i guess, warped as it is.

I agree Dee and its not just girls. I am 17 and live near Taree in NSW. I have a stack of hang ups too about my pecs and and my tummy and my muscles. Girls always go on about "that guys arse" so I worry about that too. I love being naked actually but I wouldnt want people to see me and that sucks a bit when you think about it.

Adman March 18, 2009, 7:18 pm

I was meaning that it is nice to do a naked photograph but maybe your family will mind?

I commend you for your story. I have an Indian friend of 12 years who is very insecure about Nudity and his body. I love him as a dear friend and feel thats very sad. Vijay I hope you can be an inspiration to other Indian Men and Women to find the freedom of Nudity and feel good.

i too comend you vijay for sharing this story. with your culture it must have been a lot more difficult to become a nudist so to speak. thats one of the best things about the nudist lifestyle. you can be anyone from any part of the world and be of any shape or size and yet be totally naked and be accpeted for who you are.

your story is a lot like most people that have discovered the naked way of living so to that do have issues with being nude just give it a go. yes its scary but it will be the best thing you have ever done. all your body hangups (or hang downs which ever the case) will dissapear.

even me as free and open about my nudity as i am was once like vijay and others that have added to this thread. i was so scared going nude for a long time but its something that you get used to very quickly. i had the same worries about what people would think and the erection issue but in my first trip to a nudist resort i didnt even get out of of the car and i felt totally at ease with the prospect of getting naked in front of people i had never met and it was off with the clothes as soon as i got out of the.

it really is a great way to live and to those like vijay i say "good on you"
