Hello Everyone,

This article was in my local paper today.

Frederick Colorado--A Catholic priest faces an indecent exposure charge after jogging in the nude about  an hour before sunrise.

The Reverend told police offices he had been funning naked at a high school track and didn't think anyone would be around at that time of day.

He did not return phone calls. His attorney told the Daily  Times that the priest had no comment.

The priest was arrested around 4:30 am June 22 in this town about  20 miles north of Denver.

If convicted of indecent exposure, a misdemeanor, he would have to register as a sex offender, porsecutors said.

Now first of all, why would he have to register as a sex offender?  He was doing anything sexually offensive around anyone, to anyone and he wasnt performing any sexual activity that would require him to register as a sex offender???  Maybe i don't see the why of this, but to me he was just jogging and at a very desolate time of day. Perhaps the authourities feel that since he was jogging at a high school track, that might be justifyied. Still it was very early in the morning and the school was deserted.    Does anyone have an opinion on this one?

cheers to everyone

ron

it does sound a bit harsh to have to registar as a sex offender but he did pick a high school of all places and being a preist on top of that i think would be the reasons behind that decision.

do all cases of nudity in a public carry that punishment. i only got a charge of wilfull exposure and a $100 dollar for going nude in public here in aus. the conviction wanst recorded either.

lets hope for his sake and nudism itself it doenst go to the point of having to registar as a sex offender

I think that is ridiculous the guy (priest) was not doing any harm to anyone and had no mal-intent. All, he wanted to do was to express his nudity in a good sense and was charged with a summary offence that would have ultimately wasted the court's time and money at the end of the day. He should have, in my opinion; turned up in front of the magistrate nude in protest of the allegations. Anyway, whoever phoned the police should be charged with being a public nuisance -i hope that they get a life and leave innocent peope alone who just want to have some fun. I would like to tell that person to go get naked- they may actually enjoy it. "Good on you 'Father' ". I am sure God would have just looked down and smiled and said "My child, My child."

Hello Shaun,

i agree with you. It is ridiculous to have him register as a sex offender..and perhaps who reported him could be ashamed of their own nudity. Sometimes i think people need to mind there own business and let the people who aren't really causing a commotion just do what they are doing as long as they are not doing anything to hurt anyone else.  In life there will always be something that offends someone, but i would think common sense would say..."is this really bothering me?" and if not.. .let  it go.  In this case there were no children around, perhaps this is the reason he decided to run the track at this time of day.

cheers,

ron

All the Guy was doing was jogging naked and not hurting anybody. Men are always branded perverts just for being naked. In this society the male body is considered Sick. And whats worse he happens to be a priest. American laws are just too much!

Yes Oliver i do agree and being American i am bothered by the fact that just the simple fact of jogging nude would brand me as a sex offender... i hate Bush, always have and always will..

cheers

The Rev. Robert Whipkey in January, 2007. (Longmont Daily Times-Call | Mike Hagan)

June 2008

Rev. Robert Whipkey, who a police officer found jogging in the nude, was found guily Thursday of indecent exposure.

The jury deliberated for about two hours before returning the verdict.

Whipkey, 53, could be sentenced to anywhere from probation to 18 months in jail and could be fined anywhere from $500 to $5,000.

He will be sentenced Aug. 14.

Whipkey walked the length of three football fields, past 21 homes, near a preschool and several businesses with no clothes and no regard for anyone else as dawn broke June 22, 2007, a Weld County prosecutor told jurors.

This after Whipkey jogged nude around the track at Frederick High School, showing a disregard for the community in which he lived, prosecutor Steven Wrenn said..

"We instinctively and gutterally know what he did was wrong," Wrenn said. "We know it's wrong because the law says it's wrong."

Police officers who testified Thursday said that when they confronted Whipkey, he admitted jogging nude because clothes made him sweat.

"He basically said the community has to deal with it," Wrenn said. "Well, the community doesn't have to deal with it."

Whipkey's attorney, Harvey Steinberg, said no one saw Whipkey that morning.

A neighbor who testified earlier in the day that she often saw the upper part of his buttocks in his living room window only saw a "plummer's crack," Steinberg said.

"You may not like him, you may not like what he did, but follow the law and find him not guilty," Steinberg said.

Officer Zachariah Hahn testified he was stunned to see a large, nude man walking down the street near his home that morning.

"I have seen lots of things in my line of work," said Hahn. "But I was shocked to see a man walking completely nude down the street."

If convicted, Whipkey could be listed as a sex offender.

Other witnesses this afternoon testified that they saw Whipkey walk around nude in his home.

Neighbor Robin Ciarabola lived across the street from Whipkey for three years.

She said she saw him naked at least twice a week.

"It was a pretty common occurrence," she said.

Steinberg said Whipkey was spotted by accident that morning and immediately covered up when he knew someone had seen him.

"He didn't mean to expose himself to anyone ... he's not on trial because you think he's weird."

Thanks for the update Naked Reporter. I noticed it has been almost a year since i posted this article. I guess i should follow up on what i post...lol.

Suddenly,  there are all kinds of witnesses to seeing this guy nude at various times of their lives and are just now stating it?  The neighbour who has lived across the street from him for three years has never said anything until now?   It didn't seem to be a big deal until he was arrested so to speak. I guess all it takes is him getting arrested and then people will talk as if they have to have their time in the limelight as well.

Of course not everyone could be like me and not say anything if i had seen someone jogging in the wee hours of the morning, because it doesn't bother me... He didn't  seem to job at the high school when school was in session or job around the pre school when young children were able to witness him. It seems to me that he at least had enough respect for that matter.. I wonder if he had been jogging then, if he would have had some kind of fine and charge against him for being a pedophile?  I am sure the courts would have had a heyday with that.

I am sure that the fact of him being a priest is a big factor in the matter. Being a figure that people look up to certainly didn't help his situation any. Unfortunately, whenever one has a profession such as this, he or she should really stop to think of these consequences.

he should've visited a nudist resort near Frederick Colorado

instead of running around naked / nude at a high school track

Mountain Air Ranch www.trynude.com 37 mile distance

Hi Jason,

Great idea, but 37 miles is bloody long way to run, even dressed. I can aready imagine the chafing after just a few miles if running naked :-(

Update

Perhaps a few laps around the high school track at dawn with no clothes wasn't a good idea after all, Rev. Robert Whipkey of Colorado now admits. On Nov. 20, 2008, Rev. Whipkey was sentenced to probation for in-the-buff exercising. "I'm a heavy man and wearing clothing while running makes me sweat profusely," Whipkey said, according to a police report, the Denver Post reported. "I know what I did was wrong." In August, the Archdiocese of Denver placed Whipkey on administrative leave.
