Well it seems that right in the heart of New York City, a billboard which displays Calvin Kleins new jeans ad is causing quite a commotion. The famous jeans company has always been at the heart of some controversey since Brooke Shields did an ad for the designer back in the 1980's. She was then just 15 years of age and in the commercial, was quoted as saying,"nothing comes between me and my Calvins." In that era, even just a comment like that was thought to be too provocative and especially for then a 15 year old.
This latest scandal, if you will, involves a billboard display in New York City with a woman on top of a man while she is kissing another man but clothed of course, with just a hint of skin. The comments that have been said range from being imoral to being too provocative, especially out in public. According to a school teacher there in New York City, she was taking her class on a field trip where they walked past the billboard and the class had a lot of questions.. some the teacher couldn't even answer.. a class of nine year olds at that.
Now while it wouldn't bother me, having this billboard displayed in public, still there are situations that arrise from such controversey. Any person can get a magazine displayed on a store rack and discover many mature ads so to speak.. but is there a line to be drawn, or would it be censorship?
I would hope that i would be the kind of parent that would be able to explain such things to my child and to bring him or her up to be tolerant and open minded. Brings to mind the song by Reba McEntire called What Do You Say. lol |
